History
John Booth Merrill, 1866-1945, was born in Lincolnshire, England. He came to Utah, USA in about 1890, after becoming a Mormon. He married Isabella Elizabeth Gibb in 1893 and they had nine children, Jehzell (Hendrickson), Gwen (Tanner), Sara (Tanner), M. Magrath, Booth, Donald, Florence (Nielson), Laura (Wight), and Edythe (Jackson). The family moved to Magrath, Alberta in 1899 and in 1900 John started a nursery which supplied many of the trees for the streets of Lethbridge. He served on a Mormon mission to England, 1907-1910, then in 1911 moved to Hill Spring, Alberta where he established another nursery and ranched. In 1929 he undertook another Mormon mission, to California.
