        Archibald Westmacott McVittie, 1858-1926, was born in Barrie, Ontario. He worked for an architectural firm there and in 1882 qualified as a surveyor. He came to Alberta the same year as a member of a Dominion land survey party. In 1883 he surveyed the Fort Macleod townsite and in 1884 the Calgary townsite. He worked with McVittie, Child and Wilson, Architects and Surveyors, before moving to British Columbia. In 1899 he married Emily Louise Leslie and they had two children, Charles Archibald, 1900-?, and Margaret Emily,1902-? He died in Victoria.
