      John Angus McKinnon, 1898-1978, was born in Dalemead, Alberta, the son of Lachlin McKinnon, 1865-1948, who came to Alberta from Ontario in 1886, and Sara Whitney, 1876-1959. His parents established a ranch near Dalemead, and in 1921 formed the L.K. Farm and Ranching Co. to involve their thirteen children in the large holdings which they had amassed.

      J. Angus farmed at Dalemead until his retirement to Calgary in 1954. He served as president of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, governor of the University of Alberta and as a member of the Bow River Flood Commission.

      He published his memoirs as The Bow River Range, 1898-1974 / John Angus McKinnon. - Calgary, 1974.
