Biographical history
J. N. Coyle established a hardware store in Acme, Alberta probably in the 1900s. Around 1910 he sold it to the McInnes brothers, Jack and Bill. In 1928 they sold it to three partners, Wyman, Small, and Hanley, who named the store Acme Hardware. In 1945 the store was acquired by Hugh McKay. The building had a large room on the second floor which became known as McInnes Hall. It was a major venue for community gatherings of all types. In 1969 it was demolished when Hugh McKay moved the hardware store to a newer building across the street.
