Biographical history
Matthew A. Brimacombe was born in England. He lived in Ontario and Manitoba before moving to Alberta in 1902 and settling on NE 6-51-5-W4. He became the postmaster of the settlement of Breage which grew there. In 1905 he moved into nearby Vermilion, a new town on the recently completed CNR line. He and his brothers, John and Marwood G., established the Brimacombe Brothers Book and Stationery Store. Matthew was appointed postmaster and government land agent. He was Vermilion's mayor from 1906 to 1908 and in 1913, and served on the town council until 1926. He later managed the government liquor store.

The fonds consists of certificates of appointment (1904-1906), Vermilion council minutes (1906), election poster (1906) and miscellaneous newsclippings and articles about the town (1918-1922). Also consists of photographs of Breage (1904-1905), Vermilion streets and buildings (1905-1913), interior of Brimacombe's store (1908, 1925), Vermilion town council (1907), and Onion Lake Cree (1928).
