Marjory F. Brown, 1922- , was born in Calgary, Alberta, the daughter of Charles Brown and Isabella Margaret Lascelles Glenday. Her father owned Brown Shoe Repair Shop on 14th Street SW from 1918 to 1963. Her mother was Alberta's first woman court reporter, and a bookkeeper for Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). Marjory trained as a teacher at the Calgary Normal School and the University of Alberta. She subsequently obtained her MA and PhD in education at the University of Washington. She taught in rural Alberta for two years, including one year at Highland View School District near Hughenden. She then taught in Calgary for 12 years, at the State University of New York for six years, and as a professor at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, USA for 22 years. She married Edward Azarowicz, who had three children, Edward, Diane, and Calvin.
