        Robert Bruce Leard, 1878-1970, was born in Victoria, Prince Edward Island, and in 1900 moved to Regina, Saskatchewan to join the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP). He was serving in Frank, Alberta at the time of the Frank slide in 1903. He was discharged in 1905. In 1910 he married Abigail Jane Crimmon, and in 1920 moved to Rosedale, Alberta where he held the position of foreman at the Rosedale Coal Company in the Drumheller coal field. After a mine accident in 1925 he moved to Youngstown, Alberta where he owned and operated a garage, and served as councillor and mayor. He did the same in Delburne from 1937 until 1949.
