Mary B. Walter, ca. 1875-[after 1929], grew up in Rossville, Indiana, USA. She met her husband, Fred Lawrence, while he was studying agriculture at Purdue University. They married and moved to Fred's home in Fort Vermilion, Alberta ca. 1898, where Fred took over the management of his father's farm. They had between four and six children. In 1907 Mary returned to Indiana with the children, and sometime later wrote her reminiscences about life as an Alberta pioneer and a history of the Royal North-West Mounted Police (RNWMP).
