History
Charles Edward Kendrew, 1878-1971, was born in Crathorne, England and moved to Quebec with his family in 1884. The Kendrews later moved to Manitoba, and in 1896 to Alberta. Charles fought in the South African War with Strathcona's Horse. On his return he homesteaded near Pine Lake, Alberta, where he continued to farm until 1965. In 1905 he married Margaret Ethel Walton, 1882-1965, who was also born in England. They had one son, Walton. Charles was secretary of Grassy Lake School District No. 770 from 1919 to 1921. He spent his last six years at the Rockyview Lodge in Carstairs and the Colonel Belcher Hospital in Calgary.
