History
James Hastie Johnston, 1865-1936, was born in Seaforth, Ontario. He came to western Canada with a survey party in 1884, fought in the 1885 Riel Rebellion, and then settled in the High River, Alberta district. He served in the First World War, worked as a brand inspector with the Department of Agriculture, and was a member of the Southern Alberta Pioneers' and Old Timers' Association. He died in Calgary.
