        LeRoy Peter Vernon Johnson, 1905-1983, was born on a farm near Stavely, Alberta. He received a BSc (1931) and MSc (1933) from the University of Alberta. He later obtained a PhD. He held positions at the universities of Florida and Washington State. He then became associate professor of genetics at University of Alberta in 1948 and professor in 1949. He held the chair of Department of Genetics from 1969 until his retirement in 1970. He published a number of works on agronomy and wrote novels and short stories. He also published Aberhart of Alberta / by L.P.V. Johnson and Ola M. MacNutt. - Edmonton : Institute of Applied Art, 1970. He married Delta Hewitt in 1938 and they had three children, Bob, Elaine and Elise.
