Biographical history
John W.B. Shipley, 1922-2001, was born in Calgary, Alberta. He served as a flight instructor in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) during the Second World War. Shipley then established Shipley Photo Service by taking over the photofinishing operation of McDermid Drugs. He operated in Calgary and Edmonton until 1985. Shipley was made an honorary member of the Alberta Pharmaceutical Association in 1977 for his service to that industry. He married Hela Irene Galbraith.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of Shipley's photographs of Calgary streets and scenic views, air force activities in Alberta, Calgary Stampede rodeo, Royal Visits in 1939 and 1951, and scenes of the Banff area, Edmonton and Saskatoon. Includes an illuminated address presented to Dr. Mills Shipley who served in the Lethbridge prisoner of war camp hospital during the Second World War, 1941.
