Biographical history
John McIver, 1903-1981, was born into a family of Scottish immigrants near Killarney, Manitoba. The family moved to Saltcoats, Saskatchewan in 1908, then to Castor, Alberta in 1910. As a young man, John worked at a variety of jobs in the prairie provinces. In 1928 he married Jessie Riddell and settled in Calgary. They had two children, Stan, 1928- , and Melva (Grey), 1935- . For most of his working life he worked as a delivery driver, taxi driver, and bus driver.
