Biographical history
John M. Soby, 1856-1937, was born in Norway and came to Minnesota, USA in 1883. He moved to Crary, North Dakota in 1886 where he married Anna Emanuelson, ?-1935. In 1904 the Sobys homesteaded near Claresholm, Alberta and also operated a general store in the town. They operated the store until Mr. Soby's death. They had eight children, Martha (Atkinson), 1888-1962, Alfred, Elida (Smith), Julia (Amundsen), Roy, Mabel (Amundsen), Alvin and Harold.
