Fonds F1173 - John Leslie Longpre fonds

John Leslie Longpre, 1914-2002, was born in Calgary, Alberta. After completing his schooling at St. Mary's and Central High Schools he became a salesman for Scott-Bathgate. He was employed by the Calgary Municipal Railway as a motor conductor in 1941. When the system converted from street cars to buses, he became a bus operator for the Calgary Transit System. In 1952 he was responsible for training new operators. He retired as a transit inspector in 1973 and later became the president of the Calgary Transit Pensioners Association. Longpre was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Amalgamated Transit Union. He and his wife Marjorie Dixon, ?-1977 had three sons: Gerry, Cliff, ?-1999 and Brian. He married Annette in 1979.
