Biographical history

John Joseph Miller was born in England. He was the son John Miller and Annie (Shackley) Miller. He lived in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia for most of his life. Initially, he worked as a bricklayer, learning the trade from his father. He volunteered to join the Canadian Army on April 5, 1940, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Army, West Nova Scotia Regiment. On his return from the war he continued as a bricklayer until the work became too strenuous. He then became a salesman working for Hostess Foods. He died in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia at the age of 69 likely from complications of multiple sclerosis. He was survived by his wife Catherine (Sarson) Miller and a daughter JoAnn (Mrs. Ted Beals) of Calgary, Alberta. His wife, Catherine passed away on December 16, 2011.

Scope and content

Fonds consists mainly material related to Miller's service during World War II. There are also post-service that include a letter of reference and an obituary.
The collection is divided into 3 series:
