Biographical history
John O. Galloway, 1899-1981, was born in Loco, Oklahoma, USA. He received a degree in geology and chemistry from the University of Oklahoma in 1921. He joined the Standard Oil Company of California (later renamed the California Standard Company, and eventually Chevron Corporation) in 1924. He came to Alberta in 1938 to manage the company's exploration activities in western Canada, and was responsible for several significant discoveries. He became a vice-president of the company in 1944. In 1949 he resigned to form his own petroleum consulting firm. He was the founding president of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geophysicists in 1949. He was married to Adelle Galloway, and they had three sons.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of reports of geophysical exploration in western Canada, particularly in Alberta. Most of the reports were commissioned by Galloway for his consulting practice. Includes seismic reports on the Atlee, Barons, Big Valley, Excelsior, Grand Forks, Joffre (south), Newbrook, Picture Butte, Redwater, Stettler, Steveville, Tofield, and Viking areas of Alberta and the Lyleton area of Manitoba. Includes gravity reports and articles on the Bonnyville-Cold Lake and Pembina areas of Alberta; land reports on the Taber and Sexsmith-Webster areas of Alberta; and correspondence, maps, and collected articles on related topics.
