Fonds F1051 - John and Bruce Johnson fonds

John Edgar Johnson, 1870-1959, was born in Clandeboye, Ontario and came to Calgary, Alberta via London, Ontario in 1910. He was first employed by the Post Office as a railway mail clerk and then in 1926 was appointed Assistant Postmaster at Calgary. Throughout his life he was actively involved in the Masonic Lodge. During the 1930s he moved to Victoria but returned to Calgary in the late 1950s. His son, Bruce Martin Johnson, 1900-?, served with the 1st Troop Calgary Boy Scouts, and in 1913 helped form the St. Stephen's Anglican Church Cadets. He served overseas during First World War with the Canadian Army Service Corps. He joined the militia, 15 Div. Coy. CASC in 1925 (later known as the 2nd Corps Troops Royal Canadian Army Service Corps). In 1933 he became a Warrant Officer Class I, and at the outbreak of Second World War joined the 1st Div. Ammunition Company as a sergeant and departed for England with the Advance Canadian Contingent. He joined the 8th Army in 1941, was discharged in 1944 and continued to serve with the reserve forces for a number of years.
