Biographical history
John A. Langlands, originally from Scotland, was a building contractor who lived in Calgary, Alberta from ca. 1906 to 1919. In 1919 he was listed in the city directory as a building inspector. His relatives, John Jr., James and William, were listed as carpenters.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of a certificate in automobile and tractor engineering issued to William, and architectural and engineering drawings. Some of the drawings are signed by the Calgary architectural firm Lawson & Fordyce, some by J.A. Langlands, some by William Langlands, and some are unidentified. Structures depicted include the George Lane residence, the William V. Wing residence, the I.K. Kerr residence, Terrill's Greenhouses in Calgary and Lethbridge, the Rosery Flower Co. in Medicine Hat, the Al Azhar Temple, the J. Findlay apartment block, Knox Church, and the J.A. Langlands residence.
