James Wheeler Davidson, 1872-1933, was born in Minnesota, USA. Between 1893 and 1896 he was a member of the Peary Arctic expedition, and a war correspondent for the New York Herald in the far east. He became an American consul in 1898 and worked in various Chinese ports until 1906. In 1906 he married Mabel Lillian Dow, 1881-1974, and they had one daughter, Marjory (Abramson), 1915-2003. The Davidsons moved to Calgary, Alberta and he managed the Crown Lumber Company, 1906-1916. He then became a financial agent in partnership with John Beiseker.
