Biographical history

James O. Scott, 1882-1939, of Alberta enlisted in the Canadian Mounted Rifles in the South African War and on his return worked in Calgary in the contracting business with his brother. In 1917 he joined the Alberta Provincial Police and served as detective-sergeant at Edmonton, Red Deer, Blairmore and Lethbridge. He was responsible for arresting Emilio Picariello and Florence Lassandro (or Filumena Losandro) in 1922. While with the APP he was promoted to Inspector. In 1932, when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) took over the APP, he was posted to Vegreville and in 1936 to Calgary. In 1938 he was posted to Prince Edward Island. He and his wife, Nellie, 1881-1965, had three daughters, Vivian (Walton), ?-1939, Nell (Moir) and Marjorie, 1918-1998. Mrs. Scott lived in Calgary from 1939 to 1962, then moved to Vancouver.
