James E. Lanigan of Calgary, Alberta had an interest in railway history. He was president of the Locomotive & Railway Historical Society of Western Canada, Chairman and Director of the Canadian Council for Railway Heritage (1992-) and director of the National Dream Legacy Society (2011-). He was also president of Western Horizons Energy Group.

The fonds consists of an essay, “Historical Profile: Canadian Pacific Railway Company Business Car Killarney”, about the personal railway car of Sir Thomas G. Shaughnessy, 1st Baron Shaughnessy, the third president of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The essay includes many photocopied illustrations. The fonds also includes photographs of Calgary Street Railway cars.
