Biographical history
James G. Scott, 1912-1992, was born in Calgary, Alberta and at the age of eight entered the Boy Scout movement, with which he was associated for the remainder of his life. Scott was educated at Garbutt Business College in Calgary and worked for 18 years in the retail furniture business. He was active as a scoutmaster and in 1941 became Calgary district secretary-treasurer. In 1946 he accepted the position of assistant executive commissioner for Alberta. He helped found the Calgary Scouts Ice Stampede, and their camps on the Matthews and Gardner properties. Scott also had much to do with the building of Calgary district headquarters and improvements at Camp Woods. He retired in 1977 after receiving many awards for his lifetime of work with the Scout movement.
