Biographical history
James Elliot, 1879-1955, came from Hawick, Roxburgh, Scotland to Alberta in 1910 to farm on Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) irrigated land at Nightingale, near Strathmore. He was accompanied by his parents, John Elliot, ?-1917, and Elizabeth Nicol Elliot, 1854-1942, and by his siblings, Sophie, Amy (Griffith), Effie (Griffith), Will and Robert. James was chief clerk at the CPR Experimental Farm at Strathmore, then worked for the CPR Department of Natural Resources in Calgary. He retired in 1932. His parents moved from Nightingale to Midnapore in 1914.
