        Charles Walter Simpson James, 1875-1959, was born in Dublin, Ireland. He enlisted in the Imperial Yeomanry in 1900 and served in South Africa. He moved to Canada in 1903 and joined the Royal North West Mounted Police, serving in Regina, Fort Macleod and Twin Lakes, Alberta. James settled in Claresholm, Alberta around 1905 and operated a livery stable and worked as a stock inspector. He was also a partner in Claresholm Realty and various insurance firms. James married Clara Amelia Pentland in 1912. He joined the Canadian Army in 1915 and served until 1919 with the rank of Major. Wounded at Vimy Ridge he returned to Canada as commanding officer of Sarcee Camp (Sarcee Army Camp) in Calgary. During the Second World War he re-joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as a special constable.
