Biographical history
James Osborne Baker, 1916-2005, was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia and raised in Milltown, New Brunswick. He later moved to Toronto and then became a farm mechanic in Alberta. Baker joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in 1941 and served overseas during the Second World War, repairing radar equipment on bombers. After the war he took up a Solder Settlement farm at Madden, Alberta where, in addition to grain, he raised Springer Spaniels and chickens. After his crop was destroyed in 1951 he sold out and moved to Briarcliff Manor, New York where some of his New Brunswick family had settled. For twenty-five years he was caretaker of Camp Andree Clark, a Girl Scout camp near Briarcliff. In 1973 the family relocated again to Simi Valley, Calfornia. In January, 1945, Baker married Mildred Elizabeth, 1920-2010, of Boston. They had nine children, William, 1945-1945, James Osborne Jr, 1946- , Robert Francis, 1947- , William Leslie, 1949- , Mary Pauline, 1952- , Margaret Anne, 1956- , Thomas Joseph, 1957- , Michael, 1960?- , and Timothy, 1962?- .
