Biographical history
J.H. Walker, a journalist from England, travelled through Canada from 1889 to 1891, and wrote a series of articles for the Wallasey and Wirral Chronicle newspaper, entitled "Sketches of Life in Canada". He wrote about the trip from Liverpool to Quebec and from there to Calgary, Alberta, and then described Calgary, the prairie, Canadian manners and customs, native peoples, the weather (including chinooks), winter, farming, the postal service, and prospects for settlers.
