Biographical history
Israel Florence, ca. 1896-1971, was born in Glasgow, Scotland and came to Calgary, Alberta in 1913. He served as an agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance for 32 years and was also very active in local Jewish organizations. He served in First World War and was president of both the 31st Battalion Association and the 137th Battalion Association. He was also active in the Royal Canadian Legion. He and his wife, Sarah, had three children, Leslie, Minnie (Segal) and Vivian (Katz).
