Administrative history
Information Technology Services was formed ca. 1998 to provide support for technological applications in Information Resources (Libraries and Cultural Resources after 2006), as well as delivering direct public services through MADGIC (Maps, Academic Data, Geographic Information Centre) and the Information Commons.
Sometime after 2012, it was renamed Digital Library and Research Technologies. By 2015, it was led by the Associate University Librarian for Digital Library and Research Technologies, reporting to the Vice-Provost (Libraries and Cultural Resources) and University Librarian.
Digital Library and Research Technologies works closely with many of the units in Libraries and Cultural Resources, as well as with the campus Information Technologies department. It also works with other academic libraries in Western Canada through the Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries (COPPUL) Systems and Digitization Group, ACCOLEDS (the COPPUL data consortium), and The Alberta Library (TAL), the Alberta multitype library consortium.
