        History

        Slocum Howland, 1870-ca. 1952, was born in Catskill, New York, USA. He was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy, and graduated from the Yale University Sheffield Scientific School in 1895. Around 1910 he travelled to Alberta to invest in coal mining and oil. During his time in Alberta he was the president of both Alberta Associated Oil Fields Ltd. and the Red Deer Valley Coal Company. In approximately 1941 he returned to the USA where he became director of the Catskill National Bank. He died in Pasadena, California.
