Biographical history

Howard D. Falkenberg, ca. 1920-1988, was born in Ponoka, Alberta. He went to school in the Leduc district and high school in Camrose, where he moved in 1935. He eventually owned a grain and chicken farm 16 kms southwest of Camrose. He and his wife, Alice, had four children, Aaron, Gwen, Sandra and Brenda. He was active in many agricultural organizations. He was on the executive of the Alberta Broiler Growers' Association and the organization's Marketing Board in the 1960s and 1970s, and was vice-president and president of Unifarm in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also president of Poultry Products Institute of Canada, Inc. in the early 1970s, Alberta chairman and national vice-president of the Canada Broiler Council in the late 1960s, and an executive member of a number of other organizations. He was also active in his community.

The fonds consists of Alberta Broiler Growers' Association and its Marketing Board records (1964-1981): minutes, correspondence, membership lists, marketing plans, regulation drafts, annual reports, lists of producers and newsletters; Unifarm records (1969-1983): constitution and bylaws, minutes, executive and committee lists, and convention reports; and Poultry Products Institute of Canada, Inc. records (1966-1972): bylaws, minutes and correspondence. Includes Canadian Broiler Council records (1965-1976), and records related to Howard's activities in numerous other agricultural and community organizations (1963-1985).
