        Joseph Hicks, 1864-1950, was born in Brussels, Ontario. He fought in the 1885 Riel Rebellion (North West Rebellion) with a company of mounted rifles under Sergeant Hatton. He settled in Fort Macleod, Alberta and in 1892 married Cora Alice Sanders, 1873-1953, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, USA and raised in Mitchell, Ontario. They had four children, Lawrence, Ella (Falconer), Lillian (Merkley) and Cora. Joseph was called to the Bar of the North-West Territories in 1902 and practiced law in Fort Macleod from 1905 to 1933.
