      William Stewart "Bill" Herron, 1908-1989, was born in Okotoks, Alberta and attended public schools at Okotoks, Turner Valley, Black Diamond and Calgary. He also attended Brentwood College in Victoria, British Columbia. He worked as a freighter for his father's transportation company, particularly in Turner Valley. In 1939 he became president of Okalta Oils, a firm he worked with until the 1960s. He was always interested in raising, judging and competing with horses. Herron was an honorary life member of the Calgary Zoo, Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, the Turner Valley Golf Club and the Bow Valley Agriculture Society. He married, first, Mary Madeleine and they had two sons, William S. Herron and Robert W. Herron. He later married Marjorie Allen, 1917-2005.
