Biographical history

Herbert E. T. Doucet was a member of a Canadian military family, and graduated from Royal Military College in 1925. During the Second World War he was Lieutenant-Colonel of The Perth Regiment of Canada, and was awarded the Order of the British Empire. Following the war he was an attaché in the Canadian embassy in the Netherlands. He retired with the rank of Brigadier-General.

Scope and content

The collection consists of copies of carte-de-visite and cabinet card portraits of members of the Doucet family and Canadian military, social, and political personalities. About two-thirds of the images were created by William Notman & Son. Subjects include Gen. Garnet Wolseley, Frederick H. Brydges, Charles John Brydges, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, General Sir Frederick Middleton, W. M. Muir, Hon. C. Crichton, Charles O’Connor, J. P. Brabazon, Lyman Mills, Sheldon Stephens, Ponsonby Bagot, Hugh Seymour de Grey, Hon. C. Elliott, Lady Sarah Lindsay, H. C. Pemberton, Alex de Lisle, E. H. Griffith, W. Walpole, Miss Starnes, Mrs. T. Hart, Maggie Brown, Mrs. George Desbarats, D. J. Bannatyne, C. H. R. Gossett, Mrs. J. McClimont, H. de Uriarte, John Watkins, H. Meredith, Marie Le Mesurier, Harvey Bawtree, Edward Desbarats, and others unidentified or identified only by surname.
