Biographical history
Henry Victor Grainger, 1889-1966, was born in Collingwood, Ontario and came west to Strathmore, Alberta about 1910. He subsequently moved to Calgary and worked in a variety of barber shops including the Star and the Leader. He opened Grainger's Barber Shop in the 1920s and operated it until 1944. He was active as a photographer and was a life member of the Calgary Retriever Club and the Alberta Field Trials Club. Grainger was also secretary-treasurer of the Barber's Union for ten years. He married Emily Jane, 1887-1972, and they had three children, Lillian Emily (Lyons), 1913-2000, Vi (Goodrich) and Alf. Lillian's husband Leslie John Lyons, ?-1983, operated a Texaco service station in Calgary and she was active in the establishment of the Capitol Hill Community Association. She had two children Pat (Leney) and Ken.
