History
William "Billy" Henry, 1867-1972, was born in Perthshire, Scotland and emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1879 with his family. He joined a Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) construction crew in 1885 which brought him to High River, Alberta where he worked on various ranches and bought cattle. In 1896 he became owner of the High River Hotel and continued to buy cattle for himself and Pat Burns. In 1898 he delivered meat to the Klondike via British Columbia and later made similar trips for Pat Burns. In 1902 he participated in a government round-up on the Milk River and in 1907 again worked with Pat Burns. He married Agnes Baird, 1877-1955, and from 1910 to 1920 they lived at Tide Lake where Billy ran horses and cattle. They later lived in Coronation until 1927 when Billy began working with George Ross on Milk River. After leaving Milk River in 1936 Billy and Agnes purchased an irrigated farm at Lethbridge where they lived until retiring to High River in 1947.
