        Ron M Helmer, 1924-2005, was a chemical engineer in the Canadian petroleum industry and lived most of his life in Calgary, Alberta. He attended the University of Alberta and subsequently founded Helmer Chemical Company. Helmer lived for a year as a hunter in New Zealand which resulted in a memoir entitled "Stag Party", which was published in 1964. In 1989 he published a novel about the Canadian oil patch entitled "Peddler in the Patch". He and his wife Jean had three children, Vanessa, Douglas and Geoffrey.
