        Herbert Maynard Hatfield, 1855-1945, was born in England, and in 1886 came to Pincher Creek, Alberta. He ranched briefly with Lionel Brooke and then started a new ranch east of Twin Butte. He raised horses for the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) as well as raising cattle and hay on his property. Hatfield never married. After his death the ranch was named the Waterton Ranch.
