Biographical history
Harry H. Baines, ?-1924, was born in England. He came to Alberta in the 1880s and settled in High River. In 1896 he ran the High River Hotel in partnership with Billy Henry. He fought in the South African War, and on his return took up ranching near Little Bow. On a trip to England in 1903 he married, and he and his wife, Mary Jewett, ?-1949, had two sons, Alfred, 1914-2000 and Harry. He managed the St. George Hotel for owner George Ross, ca. 1905-1910. In 1915 he purchased the Loch Sloy store and post office in High River, and in 1919 he built the South Fork Trading Post, a mercantile business in which he also housed a collection of native relics.

The fonds consists of diary about ranching operations (1903-1904); and account books of the High River Hotel (1895-1900), St. George Hotel (1905-1907) and Loch Sloy store (1915-1917). Includes a photograph of Stoneys and friends at Armistice celebrations in High River (1918).
