Biographical history

Harold Banister, 1873-1934, was born in England and came to Alberta with his father, Albert Edward Banister, in 1884. The family homesteaded at Davisburg near Calgary. Harold worked for a time in British Columbia before homesteading himself at Davisburg. In 1903 he married Laura Beatrice Bryce and they had nine children, Bertram Harold, 1904-1949, Mary Beatrice, 1905-1907, Stanley Bryce, 1906-1966, Dallas (Wright), 1908-?, Audrey Amelia (Bolin), 1910-?, George Alwyn, 1911-?, John Albert Weston, 1914-1979, Ronald Kitchener, 1917-?, and Patricia (Wedderburn), 1920-?. In 1913 he sold the farm and moved to Okotoks where he worked in real estate and insurance. He served as a police magistrate and was mayor of Okotoks from 1932 until his death. In 1931 he dictated his memoirs to his daughter, Dallas, and they were published as a serial by the Calgary Herald.
