History
Informal rodeo contests were held in the district around Hardisty, Alberta as early as 1919. In 1949 the Hardisty Stampede Association was founded by Peter Guenard, Cliff Saville, and others. The Hardisty Stampede, featuring professional rodeo cowboys, was a major annual event in the town from 1949 until the early 1970s.
