History
Wilma Hansen graduated from the University of Alberta in 1926 with a bachelor of commerce degree. Her conviction that cooperation between parents and teachers was vital to education led to involvement with several home and school councils throughout Alberta.
Elected to the Calgary Public School Board in 1961, Wilma Hansen represented the Board on many key committees including the Citizen's Centennial and the development of school libraries and schools for the developmentally disabled. When she retired from the Board in 1967, she was awarded a life membership in the Alberta School Trustees Association.
Her tireless service was recognized when she was made a doctor of the University of Calgary in 1969.
