        History

        James Hamar of England, a carpenter by trade, came to Canada in 1906. He travelled from Quebec to Alberta and worked at a variety of jobs over the next seven years. He was a lay preacher at the Methodist Mission at Gleichen, then lived in Nelson, British Columbia for a year, before returning to Alberta. He worked in Fort Macleod, Laggan (Lake Louise), and Calgary. He was active in the Baptist church in Calgary. In 1912 he returned to England. He subsequently married and had two daughters, Mrs. K.M. Bibby and Miss M. Hamar.
