Biographical history

Hannibal Thomas "Hal" Lyne, 1897-1983, was born in Adelaide, Australia. He was raised in Australia and fought with the Australian army during both world wars. In 1954 he moved to Calgary, Alberta. He worked as a piano technician for Heintzman until 1956 when he set up his own piano business. He retired in 1976. In 1977 he helped Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) organize a piano trade school. He was prominent in the Piano Technicians Guild. He had a daughter in Australia, Margaret (Hillier).

The fonds consists of Australian Army discharge certificate; Certificate of Canadian Citizenship; miscellaneous correspondence, notes, etc. regarding piano repair business; incomplete manuscript "The Practical Piano Repairer or Adventures Amonst the Eight C's" by Hal T. M. Lyne; earlier draft of the same manuscript; and unidentified photographs.
