Biographical history

Emmanuel Augustine Joseph "Gus" Lambert, 1894-1917, was born in England. He followed his twin brother, Tony, to Saskatchewan in 1913, and worked on the farm of Ernie Jillings at Arelee, near Asquith, for a year. He came from an artistic family, his father being a professional artist, and he often illustrated his letters with sketches. At the outbreak of First World War he joined the First Canadian Mounted Rifles. He trained at Saskatoon, and at Camps Sewell and Hughes in Manitoba before going overseas in November 1915. He was killed in action at Vimy Ridge.
