      History

      Dr. John Nisbet Gunn, 1879-1937, was born at Beaverton, Ontario and trained in medicine at the University of Toronto. He moved to Calgary in 1907 where he practiced as an eye specialist. During First World War he served as a Colonel with the 8th Field Ambulance Brigade and was awarded the DSO. He was active with Grace Presbyterian Church, St. John Ambulance, the Rotary Club and the Alberta Fish and Game Association. He and his wife, Anna Elizabeth, 1885-1966, had three children, Jeanette (Motter), 1914-2005, Catherine (Gunn), 1920-1999, and Ian M., 1923-2009.
