Biographical history
The Glengarry Ranch was established in Claresholm, Alberta in 1885 by Allan Ban MacDonald, who was a Glengarry, Ontario merchant. The 50,000 acre ranch, known by its brand "44", was taken over shortly after by railway contractors William MacKenzie and Donald Mann, who kept MacDonald on as a manager. In 1910 the ranch was sold again and Thomas Moore was retained as manager. The ranch was registered as the Glengarry (Province of Alberta) Ranch Company Limited on February 16, 1915 under an Ordinance of the North West Territories respecting Foreign Companies, and had its head office listed as London, England. In 1918 the ranch was expanded with the purchase of the Canyon Ranch, and in 1922 the ranch was purchased by Pat Burns.
