Biographical history
Gilbert O. Raasch, 1903-1999, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA and at an early age became associated with the Milwaukee Public Museum. He attended the University of Wisconsin and worked at the Geological Museum. After service as an officer in the United States Army Air Corps in the Second World War, he received his PhD in geology. In 1953 he moved to Calgary, Alberta where he worked for Canadian Stratigraphic Service before becoming a paleontological consultant at Shell Canada. In 1967 he founded his own geological consulting firm. He and his wife had one daughter, Avis (Worthington). He was a fellow of the Geological Society of America.
