Biographical history
Gerald Ormsby Baugh was born in Birmingham in March of 1904. After emigration to Canada, Baugh settled in Vancouver and worked in various capacities related to commercial and government shipping. During the 1930's he crewed on the Empress of Japan and The Empress of Canada (1920) traversing the trans-Pacific route between Canada and the far east. During WWII, Baugh served as Lt. Commander and later as Commander on the corvette HMCS Alberni (1941-1942) and the destroyer HMSC St. Clair (1942-1944).

Scope and content
Fonds consists of material gathered and preserved by Baugh and his wife, Jean A. Baugh (née Gordon) pertaining to Baugh's naval career, as well as his personal interests and correspondence with friends and family. Also includes a baseball signed by members of the 1934 MLB All-Star team who visited Japan in that year sailing on the Empress of Japan, on which Baugh was a junior officer.
