Murray-Dixon served in the 49th Battalion in the First World War and was involved in the battle for Vimy Ridge. He returned to the Peace River area near Berwyn for a time and also served on steamboats. Murray-Dixon married Molly Mary Warren in 1927 and in the late 1920s moved to Turner Valley, Alberta.
